Brian Rourke

SONY DSCI ordered my first and only custom built frameset from Brian Rourke Cycles in 1990. I basically said that I wanted a 52cm frame with a 72º seat tube angle and let the frame builder do his stuff. For that size frame the norm would have been 74º but with that angle I wouldn’t be able to get the saddle far enough back. It did mean mean that the tips of the toes overlapped with the front wheel, so care is needed turning a slow speeds!

The frame was built up with a Shimano 600 Ultegra groupset, and an old Wrights leather saddle that I cut the sides away of  to create a Brooks Swallow copy. A Campag Gran Sport seat pin, and Cinelli bars and stem to finish. The Ultegra hubs I built up with Campag Omega Strada Hardox HP rims with a 11-17 7sp cassette.

Not long after buying this frame I changed jobs and pretty much stopped racing within a year or two so it didn’t get much use.

Originally I was using Look pedals on all my bikes but have switched to SPD, therefore today I put on a pair of Shimano PD-A600 SPD Touring Pedals I bought last week second hand.
